🚀 Airbyte's explosive growth through community-led approach

“Don’t worry about failure; you only have to be right once." (Drew Houston, Dropbox Co-founder)

In September 2019, Michel Tricot and John Lafleur were winding up their previous jobs and decided to start Airbyte. Well, Airbyte was not conceived that easily!

Both Michael and John got together and validated (or rather, invalidated) 10 different ideas in two days. In fact, they submitted their first application to Y Combinator with the idea of founding an integrated banking, accounting and tax service for the workers of the gig economy, such as drivers (Uber, Lyft, Amazon, Postmates, etc.), Airbnb hosts, Upworkers, Fiverrs and other gig workers (people using gig work platforms, a subset of freelancers). They withdrew their application within 3 days when they got to know that both Uber and Lyft were working on a similar solution!

🔁 They were back to square one. But this was merely a speed bump. They spent time brainstorming further and came up with another idea with which they finally applied to YC. This time the idea was, to take on all the operational complexity involved in any data exchange between two parties; which again was very different from Airbyte!

🏆 They got selected for YC! During those three months, they pivoted thrice to finally shape Airbyte, as we see it today - the open platform that unifies all your data pipelines!

💵 In early March 2021, Airbyte announced their $5.2M seed round with Accel. Just 2 months later, they raised $26M Series-A round led by Benchmark.

Airbyte launched its first functional MVP in September 2020. In a mere 7 months, this open-source platform redefined user success by completely owning the community piece.

Let's take a look at their Slack engagement metrics:

📈 As of today, Airbyte owns a super engaged community of 3500+ members on Slack!

Airbyte is also about to become the GitHub repo with the most stars around data integration, too! 👇

🤯 Facebook is planning to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on the metaverse.

"When Mark Zuckerberg comes out and says Facebook will be investing $50M and hiring 10,000 people to develop their metaverse, you know that it’s no longer something you can ignore."

Facebook is going big on metaverse! Zuckerberg thinks it's going to be a large part of the digital economy. Back in July he had mentioned that the company will try to transition from being a social media company to a metaverse company in the next five years or so.

Metaverse is a broad term. It generally refers to shared virtual world environments which people can access via the internet.

But that's just not it! Facebook is planning to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on building the metaverse, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to talk about the same at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28th.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Surprise: Facebook is planning to change its company name next week to reflect its focus on the metaverse. <br><br>I’m told Zuckerberg is planning a formal unveil next Thursday at Connect, the company’s annual AR/VR conference <a href="https://t.co/nYoh4PQt4Y">https://t.co/nYoh4PQt4Y</a></p>&mdash; Alex Heath (@alexeheath) <a href="https://twitter.com/alexeheath/status/1450646795621654529?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 20, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

🤔 It would interesting to see what Facebook metaverse has to offer!

According to a Greenhouse vacancy Reddit is seeking a senior backend engineer for a platform responsible for “millions of users to create, buy, sell, and use NFT-enabled digital goods.” The position requires at least five years of experience in backend development and the ability “to design and implement complex distributed systems that operate under high load conditions.”

🐥 Now everyone can create a Twitter Space

Twitter first launched Spaces in November 2020 as an attempt to overshadow Clubhouse's success with its own version of audio-centric chat rooms, but the ability to host a Space was limited to Twitter users with 600 followers or more. Now, almost a year later, Twitter is finally giving all of its users the ability to host a space.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">the time has arrived -- we’re now rolling out the ability for everyone on iOS and Android to host a Space<br><br>if this is your first time hosting, welcome! here’s a refresher on how <a href="https://t.co/cLH8z0bocy">pic.twitter.com/cLH8z0bocy</a></p>&mdash; Spaces (@TwitterSpaces) <a href="https://twitter.com/TwitterSpaces/status/1451239134798942208?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 21, 2021</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Well, start talking now 😄

👥 DAOs will be the future of online communities in five years

Online communities, those that share a common interest on the internet, can range from social networks, grassroots organisations and customer communities.

In 2006, web expert Jakob Nielsen proposed a 90-9-1 rule based on participation inequality in social media and online communities. According to Nielsen, in most online communities, 90% of users are lurkers, i.e., those who observe, but don’t contribute, nine percent of users contribute a little and only one percent account for the most contributions.

Now, though, we’re starting to see online communities taking ownership of what they want to share. An example of the creator economy and the ownership economy coming together is seen through non-fungible tokens (NFTs). NFTs are enabling creators to deliver a more intimate connection with their followers while removing issues associated with middlemen.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
